From our Educational Director
Shalom Temple Families,
Music is a key ingredient in our program. Singing from our heart and moving our bodies unlocks our spirit. When we sing, we connect with the deepest parts of ourselves and our tradition.
Both Cantor Singer and Matt Krass, our Kesem music specialist, lead our school in weekly davening. Rabbi Suson and I both play guitar and love to join in – and Naama keeps us on pitch! Singing is also a great way for everyone to participate – to engage in their own way, with their own unique voice.
Every session, Matt, Naama and I are at the front door welcoming families with song. This sets a beautiful and inviting tone for the day – it’s hard for even the groggiest child on a Sunday morning not to smile when greeted by guitar and tambourine! I’ve noticed a tremendous upswing in our schools Ruach (spirit) as we bring music into more aspects of our program including: weekly Tefilot, Tuesday evening Minyan with Cantor Singer, and Tot Shabbat!
All this passion for music culminates once a year with our Zimriyah (song fest) on March 11th. At the Zimriyah, each grade leads a few of their favorite songs and Tefilot. Bring your whole family and friends to this wonderful service.
B’Shalom,
Jennifer Levine Director of Education
