Rabbi Steve Suson
Rabbi Steve Suson, Temple Emanu-El’s Assistant Rabbi, coordinates the B’nai Mitzvah Program and teaches in our Religious School. Rabbi Suson’s rabbinic duties have been expanded to include officiating at services and life-cycle events, delivering sermons and teaching adult education classes.
Rabbi Suson designed and officiated at Temple Emanu-El’s new High Holiday Family Services, which were attended by more than 150 people. The popular services were a welcome alternative for families interested in enjoying Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur liturgy together in an informal and interactive environment.
In 2007, (then student rabbi) Suson came to Temple Emanu-El as a B’nai Mitzvah tutor and religious school teacher and immediately felt right at home in what would become his new community. As the year progressed, it became clear that Temple Emanu-El was both a place where he could offer his Judaic knowledge and organizational experience, and where he could grow as a new rabbi.
Rabbi Suson is a graduate of the Institute of Traditional Judaism rabbinical program and holds a Master of Public Administration degree in Non-Profit Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Having lived in cities across the U.S. map including Denver, Chicago, Phoenix, Minneapolis & Teaneck, he and his wife, Rachel, now reside in Closter and have found a loving home and strong community at Temple Emanu-El.
