Rachael Melanie Schachter Memorial Educational Scholarship Fund  - Scholarships available for 2010/2011 school year

On May 23, 2003, Rachael Melanie Schachter, of blessed memory, passed away from a brain tumor at the very young age of 25.  We live with the sadness of her passing every day but also have learned to celebrate her life.  Rachael, a gifted writer and poet and a graduate of Drew University, treasured her involvement with our shul, was dedicated to helping less fortunate people, and had a deep feeling for children who strived to improve themselves through education.

In 2004 the Rachael Melanie Schachter Memorial Scholarship Fund, in Rachael’s memory, was established to financially assist families who are committed to providing their children with a Jewish education.  During these past four years,  over $25,000 in scholarships has been awarded.  With the help of Hashem and many wonderful people, we continue to be sufficiently funded to be able to offer scholarships for the school year commencing in the Fall, 2010.

These educational grants will be given to one or more children attending or desirous of attending a yeshiva, private school, college or graduate school with significant Jewish ties.  Qualification and selection will be based on a proven academic record, an essay, and financial need. Applications should be submitted to the temple office addressed to The Rachael Melanie Schachter Memorial Educational Scholarship.  Selection(s) will be made as early as possible. Download the application here.
